Patterns of Creation

Consciousness embodies all that exists. In fact, it is consciousness that creates and maintains form within the material realm. This is true whether we are dealing with a mineral form, a plant form, or an animal form. And it is equally valid whether it is a grain of sand, or a vast galaxy; a particle of algae, or a gigantic oak tree; a tiny amoeba or a human body. And further, all consciousness is constantly evolving, ever learning, ever expanding and refining itself.

As we extend our thoughts in an effort to encompass the vastness of all creation, we may easily find ourselves feeling overwhelmed. For within the macrocosm there seem to be galaxies beyond galaxies, and universes beyond universes. And as we explore the microcosm, each time we think that we have discovered the smallest possible particle, we later discover that such particles are themselves made up of even smaller units.

Our task is made even more difficult by the terminology that is available to discuss such matters. For it tends to come from the realm of science, religion, or esotericism; in all cases carrying connotations that are not necessarily helpful in developing an integrated understanding.

But as we examine the nature of creation, regardless of whether we view it toward the vastness of the macrocosm, or the minuteness of the microcosm, we tend to find patterns that are repeated over and over again. In the current work being done in the development of chaos theory, the idea of "fractals" is representative of this idea. And if such patterns exist in the material world that we can observe with our five senses, then we know that such patterns most likely also exist within consciousness itself, the causality level of the material world.

So let's begin by examining some of the basic patterns involved in the structure of consciousness, and the manner in which it evolves. Let's start by considering the vast unit of consciousness that embodies the universe of which we are a part. Perhaps it would first be well to define the meaning that we will associated with some of the terms to be used in this section. Additional terms will be defined as we encounter the need for them.

  • Cosmos: This term will be used to refer to all of creation, all that exists.

  • Creator: When spelled with an upper case "C", this term will be used to refer to the vast unit of consciousness who created the Cosmos, and all that is contained therein. In other words, it is the creative intelligence, substance, and power that underlies all that exists. Some would refer to this one as "God". Others might prefer the term "Source", in order to disassociate it from any particular persona, or religious context.

  • Our Universe: This refers to the cluster of 12 primary galaxies which constitute that portion of the Cosmos in which our solar system resides. It includes our Milky Way Galaxy, and 11 other galaxies. In the overall scheme of the Cosmos, our universe is one of the more recent universes to be created.

  • First-Cause: This term will be used to refer to the unit of consciousness that embodies our universe. In other words, First-Cause is the one through whom our Universe has been created. In this book, the term "Lord Most High" will be used synonymously with the term "First-Cause".

Creation of New Units of Consciousness

There are two fundamentally different ways in which new units of consciousness can be created. First, new units can be created through what we shall refer to as a seeding process. Secondly, an existing unit of consciousness can be sub-divided through a transmutational process into new units.

To help provide a better understanding of the two processes, let's consider the analogy of an aspen tree. An aspen tree is able to reproduce itself in two different ways. First, like most trees, a mature aspen tree produces seeds that are easily carried by the wind. If such a seed lands where conditions are sufficiently nurturing, the seed will sprout, sending new roots into the soil and a new shoot above the ground. If the environmental conditions continue to be supportive, the new tree will grow, eventually becoming a large, mature aspen tree. Although the seed that started the new tree would contain all of the genetic information needed to create a new tree of the same characteristics as the parent tree, the new aspen tree does not come into being as part of the actual life system of the parent tree.

The second manner in which aspen trees reproduce is through their root system. Within the structure of the roots there are certain nodal points where, if the environmental conditions are supportive, a sprout will be sent upward through the soil. Such a new sprout forms the beginnings of a new aspen tree. As the baby tree begins to grow, new roots are sent down into the soil to support the growth of the new tree. However, the new root system always remains an integral part of the root system of the parent tree. Within an aspen grove, it is common for most of the trees to share a common root system. In observing the trees above the ground, each one is unique, and appears to be a singular tree. Thus, one would need to examine the root system underground to determine if a particular tree was truly a singular unit that had grown from a single seed, or if it was an individualized extension of a more extensive root system. Furthermore, even a tree that starts from a single seed will eventually sprout other trees from its root system, and thus eventually evolve into a cluster of trees sharing a common root system.

Although this is not a perfect analogy, it does provide a conceptual perspective of the two methods whereby new units of consciousness come into being. In this section, our focus will be on the creation of new units of consciousness through the process of sub-division. The seeding process is dealt with in the section entitled, "Soul and Oversoul Structures".

First Phase of Creation: The Eternals

Let's begin our story at a time before our physical universe had been created. First-Cause, as a unit of consciousness, had evolved through countless evolutionary cycles within various universes throughout the Cosmos. First-Cause was thus at a point in its own evolutionary journey where it was time to begin a major new phase of development. In this new phase, through a transmutational process that we shall refer to as sub- division , First-Cause created out of itself 12 separate units of consciousness. It is important to note that in the transmutation process, the essence of First-Cause sustained itself as a residual unit of consciousness. The 12 new entities that were created consisted of individuated sub-units of First-Cause's consciousness. In Joseph Whitfield's insightful book, The Eternal Quest , these 12 entities are referred to as "Eternals". In some other writings, these entities have been referred to as the "Founders". In this section, however, we shall use the term "Eternals".

In order to help visualize the nature of the relationship between First-Cause and the Eternals, it might be helpful to consider an example of spatial geometry. In Buckminster Fuller's book, Synergetics, he discusses various geometric forms that can be derived by "packing" various numbers of spheres in the closest-pack arrangements. One arrangement of particular interest is the packing of 12 spheres around a center 13th sphere, as shown in the illustration.

Such an arrangement of spheres is illustrative of the relationship between First-Cause and the Eternals. The residual consciousness of First-Cause after the transmutation process would be represented by the center sphere. And the 12 new units of consciousness, the Eternals, would be represented by the 12 spheres surrounding the center sphere. Thus, after transmutation,

First-Cause could be considered either in a limited sense, as the center sphere; or in a more encompassing sense, as the total cluster of 13. Within the Christian tradition, the symbology of Jesus and the 12 disciples is reflective of this idea.

Virtues

Each of the 12 new Eternals was imbued by First-Cause with a particular Virtue. Virtues consist of 6 pairs of unique qualities that are fundamental within the nature of our Creator. One Virtue of each pair is of an activating (fathering) nature, and the other is of a nurturing (mothering) nature. Thus, in actuality, the 12 Eternals were brought into being as 6 pairs of Eternals, one of each pair being gifted with a activating Virtue, and the other of each pair being gifted with a nurturing Virtue.

It is difficult to find words within the English language, or within any other language, to adequately describe the qualities embodied within each of the Virtues, since each Virtue embraces a vast concept. However, the matrix shown below is an attempt to define the 6 pairs of Virtues in simplistic terms.

The 12 Virtues

ACTIVATING VIRTUE NURTURING VIRTUE
POWER LOVE
JUSTICE COMPASSION
WILL COURAGE
JOY BEAUTY
PURITY LOYALTY
CURIOSITY IMAGINATION

The 12 Virtues involve the deepest aspects of our beingness. Our experience of the Virtues is focalized within our heart center.

Again, the configuration of 12 spheres surrounding a central 13th sphere is meaningful. For if one were to extend an axis from the center of any of the 12 peripheral spheres through the center of the middle sphere, it would pass through the center of a sphere on the opposite side. Thus, with 6 such axes, the 12 spheres would be linked into 6 pairs.

For readers who are familiar with the concept of "Genesa", as developed by Dr. Derald Langham, the idea of 6 paired qualities arranged spatially around a central point is also very familiar.

Encompassed within the residual unit of consciousness of First-Cause, represented diagrammatically by the center sphere, are the qualities of all 12 of the Virtues. One of the fundamental principles found throughout the patterns of creation is "as above, so below". In other words, patterns tend to repeat themselves as we go from the macrocosm to the microcosm, and vice versa. Thus we would expect each of the 12 Eternals to encompass within the structure of their consciousness the essence of all 12 of the Virtues. This is indeed true. Thus, it is more accurate to portray each Eternal as having been imbued by First-Cause with all 12 Virtues, but with one of the 12 paired Virtues being a dominant Virtue.

The Eternals, having thus been created by First-Cause, were ready to begin their individual evolutionary journeys. After a long period of development through a wide variety of experiences, each of the Eternals eventually reached a point where it was ready to join together with First-Cause in co- creating a new universe, the one of which we are now a part. Each one of the 12 Eternals assumed responsibility for the co-creation of one of the 12 primary galaxies that now constitute our universe.

But the creation of a galaxy does not take place overnight. And it was not long before the Eternals became aware of the need to undergo transmutation themselves in order to extend their creative capacities.

Second Phase of Creation: The Somturs

So, just as First-Cause had originally created the 12 Eternals out of itself, each of the Eternals thus created out of itself 12 new units of consciousness, to be known as "Somturs". In accordance with the pattern we have seen before, each Eternal sustained its residual self as a 13th unit of consciousness, like the center sphere of a cluster. Each of the 12 new Somturs under each of the Eternals was imbued with the 12 Virtues, but again, with one of the 12 being a dominant Virtue.

And so, like the Eternals before them, each of the new Somturs began its evolutionary journey. After aeons of time, and countless evolutionary experiences, each of the Somturs eventually reached a point where it was ready to join with its "parent" Eternal as a co-creator of the various galaxies of our universe. And so the galaxies continued to grow in size and complexity, as new star systems were brought into being.

Third Phase of Creation: The Motreses

Eventually the Somturs reached a point whereby they, like the Eternals before them, became aware of their need to undergo transmutation themselves, in order to expand their creative capacity. Thus, as one might anticipate the now familiar pattern, each of the Somturs created out of itself 12 new units of consciousness, each one to be known as a "Motres". As one would expect, each of the Motreses was imbued with the 12 Virtues, but with one of the 12 being a dominant Virtue. Again, like the Somturs and Eternals before them, the new Motreses began their evolutionary journey, thus learning to become co-creators of the great galaxies that are emerging within our universe.

At this point, a personal note may be of interest. At the time I was given the term "Somtur" to use in reference to the entities created out of the Eternals, I was unfamiliar with its meaning or significance. However, through a friend I discovered that "tur" in the German language is equivalent to "doorway". And "som" is rooted in Latin, and is related to "sunlight". Thus "somtur" could translate to mean "the doorway through which sunlight passes".

When I was given the word "Motres" to use in reference to the beings that were created out of the Somturs, it also was an unfamiliar term. This time, however, I was suspicious that I might find meaning in the language roots of the word. Thus, I found that "mot" in French, equates to "word" in English. And from Latin, "res" relates to a "material thing". Then came to mind a phrase at the beginning of the Gospel of St. John: "In the beginning was the Word". That was the breakthrough that I needed! It thus seemed that "Motres" would mean, "bringing into materiality through the Word". To me, that sounded a lot like the functioning of the throat chakra. With that in mind, a slight rephrasing of the translation of "Somtur" could be the "doorway through which Light passes". That sounded very much like the functioning of the third-eye chakra!

For those who may be unfamiliar with the chakras, a note of clarification might be helpful. Within the structure of the human form, there are 7 primary chakras, or energy centers, which provide linkages between our consciousness and the various aspects that constitute the being that we are. In relation to the human body, the chakras begin at the base of the spine, and progress to the top of the head. Although terminology varies, these are generally referred to as the base chakra, spleen (or sexual) chakra, solar plexus chakra, heart chakra, throat chakra, third-eye chakra, and crown chakra. There are additional energy centers that exist outside the human form, but they are not germane to our discussion at this time. Each chakra has its own particular function.

Upon realizing that there is a correlation between the chakras and the Eternals, Somturs, and Motreses, it thus became evident that as our Universe is being created, each successive level of beings within the hierarchial structure of consciousness is related to a corresponding chakra. Eternals serve as the crown chakra function of our Universe, Somturs as the third-eye chakra, and Motreses serve as the throat chakra. From this pattern, one could surmise that our universe will reach a state of maturity when the evolutionary process involving the transmutation of consciousness reaches the level of the base chakra. At that point, we can thus assume that our universe will embark upon some new iteration in the overall scheme of evolution.

Fourth Phase of Creation: The Sentiens

As of the present time in our universe, approximately one-fourth of the Motreses have reached the stage in their evolutionary development in which they have created out of themselves 12 new sub-units. The natural question arises as to what name should be associated with these new units of consciousness. We know from the emerging pattern that these units are related to the heart chakra. As previously indicated, the heart chakra is the center through which the 12 Virtues function. This chakra also is the center through which we experience our higher-order feelings. A Latin word that has to do with feelings is "sentien". Thus, the new sub-units of consciousness that are being created out of the Motreses shall be referred to here as the "Sentiens".

As Above, So Below

Although we began our story with First-Cause, examining how that particular unit of consciousness has evolved through a hierarchical process of transmutation, it is important to acknowledge that First-Cause itself is but part of an even greater consciousness. Thus, as we look back toward the source of the Cosmos itself, we find hierarchies beyond hierarchies beyond hierarchies. As best we can perceive, however, similar clustering patterns persist ad infinitum. Thus, the consciousness of the Creator itself seems to be in an ever expanding process of evolution through the transmutation of clusters, within clusters, within clusters.

Although the focus of this section is primarily on First-Cause, and our universe that is associated with First-Cause, there is an excellent book entitled, A Cosmic Book, by Itzhak and Mirtala Bentov, that discusses how universes themselves evolve with respect to each other.
